A true untouched wilderness area is the Kaokoland,
located in the northeast of the country.
It is bordering the Skeleton Coast Park to its west and the
Kunene River forms the boundary to Angola in the north. Wild and
with very little infrastrcture, this area hosts one of the last nomadic
living tribes – the Himba. Living like hundreds of years ago, they are
true survivors of this harsh, rocky, hostile and yet beautiful wilderness
area.
Off the beaten track destinations such as the Marienfluss and
Hartmann valleys, Epupa Falls and the Khowarib Schlucht are only
possible to explore on four-wheel drive safaris or
by small aircraft.
