Once a bustling town, with an important fishing industry
and nearby diamond diggings, is today a town with melancholic
atmosphere and a consciousness of past glory.
However, in the past few years, Lüderitz is trying to recover from
this reputation and its emphasis lies in tourism: excursions from
Lüderitz include 4x4 trails and boat trips, newly established hotels at
the waterfront and fine restaurants offering the country’s best rock
lobster.
